It stands for “Country Music Heritage” and, 30 years after it’s formation, CMH Records continues to be a leader in the field of country and Bluegrass music. As you will hear in this outstanding collection of classic and contemporary roots music, the independent record label from Los Angeles has much to celebrate.
CMH Records was born in 1975 when founders Martin Haerle and Arthur Smith teamed up to record and release the music of the biggest names in Bluegrass. Lester Flatt, The Osborne Brothers, Jim & Jesse, Mac Wiseman, Merle Travis, Grandpa Jones, Carl Story, Don Reno, The Bluegrass Cardinals, The Stonemans and many others recorded some of their finest work for CMH during the ‘70s and ‘80s. The label accumulated a rich catalog of classic American music, garnering numerous awards and Grammy nominations along the way.
When Martin Haerle passed away in 1990, his son David became President and initiated CMH’s popular “Pickin’ On” series, which offers instrumental tributes to artists from The Beatles to The Grateful Dead to U2, to the delight of traditional bluegrass fans and new listeners alike. The label, which is still based in Los Angeles, continues it’s commitment to discover and develop new artists by signing the hottest bands in contemporary Bluegrass and country music including Pine Mountain Railroad and Carolina Road as well as releasing groundbreaking albums by established artists such as Wanda Jackson and Raul Malo.
David and the staff of CMH Records invite you to sit back, relax and enjoy the legendary sounds of “Country Music Heritage.”
