50 Years of Dueling Banjos
| Details: |
| It’s been a half century since Arthur Smith and Don Reno picked out the melody to the best known banjo tune in history during a recording session in Charlotte, North Carolina. A dialogue between two five-strings, the original song was titled “Feudin’ Banjos”, but when the tune showed up in the popular movie “Deliverance” in 1973, it was credited to another writer! Arthur Smith sued and the record was set straight.
However, the story didn’t end there. “Dueling Banjos” went on to become the standard against which all other banjo instrumentals were judged. At the dawn of the twenty-first century, the duet is still the most popular banjo tune of all time and the first song that beginning five-string pickers learn on their $100 Harmony banjos.
CMH Records is pleased to celebrate the golden anniversary of “Dueling Banjos” with this collection of new and classic banjo songs. Featuring Smith’s original “Feudin’ Banjos” as well as the version popularized in “Deliverance” (and a few surprises as well!), this anthology proves that the five-string is the heart of Bluegrass – a virtuosic art form that is uniquely American.
Besides Reno and Smith, 50 Years of Dueling Banjos includes performances by the legends of Bluegrass including Lester Flatt and Nashville Grass, Jimmy Martin, Josh Graves and the Osborne Brothers. Let yourself get carried down the raging rapids of Bluegrass with 50 Years of Dueling Banjos!
